Gold Plasma Production System (All information on the latest form of electric arc based colloidal production) Platinum |

Platinum is perfect to use as an example of how this process works. In order to demonstrate the process we only need to examine a set of 22gage platinum wires (.65mm diameter) to witness how the plasma system works. (Clicking each photo opens a new window with full resolution photo) The photos have been turned sideways to give perspective. Notice that neatly formed nodules are found along the border of each platinum electrode. Normally this is an unwanted condition that causes shorts in the typical arc/vapor setup making platinum one of the most difficult metals to work with. Add to that the natural tendency for platinum to 'heal' or stick to itself with a little heat and pressure. In this process you can see clearly that the plasma is developed by the electro hydro dynamic force of our voltage combined with the heat pull platinum into the gas plasma only to completely vaporize what material gets caught by this action. The gas plasma envelope quickly becomes a platinum plasma, regularly dumping this vapor during the 60 cycle per second gaps in the Electro-magnetic field in the the electric arc. Platinum shows this action very well compared to gold. Notice also that the force is just enough to pull the platinum into nodules that are not entirely removed but are slowly consumed by the regular flash vapor scouring that the plasma produces. (evidenced by the dull surface on many of the nodules) Also notice that the surfaces that have been effected by the plasma process are structured showing signs of a delicate re-structuring that is likely close to the platinum molecular lattice. This is the delicate balance that is most desired in all arc/vapor applications as our goal is to vaporize the surface layers of our source metal while not reaching the melting point for the larger mass. The trick to this process that alters the balance where in the past we had a narrow band of power variation to get optimal results is the large surface area but more importantly a thermal updraft that helps to maintain cool electrodes and keep the plasma moving rather than standing in one place where excessive gas production could allow the arc to overcome the buffering of the liquid and melt down the source electrode. This problem was typical for the basic arc/vapor setup when too much power was used to maintain the arc. The upward power limit just happened to be the best arc temperature for the process. This new geometry allows us to begin in the power range where the old arc/vapor process ended and appears to work like nothing I have ever experienced burning platinum. These electrodes reflect exactly 10 minutes of runtime. The vapor product was 20-25mg. That is a rate of 2mg per minute (50 minutes for a 1 liter batch of 100ppm Platinum!)
